The original elements for 2003 AZ84 were reasonably accurate (five oppositions from 2001 to 2006), so there was high hope of identifying a number of precovery images. Unfortunately, 2003 AZ84 was found on only one plate. On a second plate taken on 1998 Jan. 02, the object would have been located in front of a bright star.
The animated GIF below shows that the identification is correct, as the second plate taken of the same area on a different date shows that the object has moved.

At the end of this page are the elements and residuals before and with the new data. The new orbit is more accurate because the object
has now been observed for ten years instead of five years. 2003 AZ84 was numbered in March 2009.
