The original elements for 2004 NT33 were based on four oppositions from 2004-2008. A DSS image from 1995 was 26" from the predicted position. After correcting the orbit, five additional images were found back to 1982.
2004 NT33 was crossing the summer Milky Way during the 1980s and 1990s, and as shown below, there were many stars in the vicinity of the TNO's images. Fortunately, in each case a reliable measurement could be made. In the 1987 image below, 2004 NT33 was crossing a dust cloud and nearly all of the background stars were obscured.
