2007 RW10 is one of the smallest TNOs to be successfully precovered. The original orbit (four oppositions from 2001 to 2008) was quite accurate, and 2007 RW10 was considerably brighter during the 1980s and 1990s when it passed perihelion.
The target was traversing the summer Milky Way during this time, and as seen in the precovery images below, there were many stars in the area. Fortunately, two images in 1988 and 1990 were found only 7" from their predicted positions.
The following astrometry was submitted to the Minor Planet Center:
K07R10W 1988 06 17.37694 19 47 41.45 +14 36 31.9 261 K07R10W 1990 06 23.41910 20 22 10.41 +14 11 59.7 261At the end of this page are the elements and residuals before and with the new data. The new orbit is more accurate because the object has now been observed for over 20 years instead of seven years. 2007 RW10 was numbered on 2011-12-10.
